When I first met Megan, it was the very first week of our freshman year at BYU. We started our mission papers on the very same day, became roommates after we got home, were each other's bridesmaids at our weddings, and she even was the florist for mine (check. out English Floral Gardens!)!
So getting to photograph her growing family in London felt incredibly special. Megan served her mission in the UK years ago, and she completely fell in love with it. When the opportunity came for her husband to pursue his master’s degree in London, they didn’t hesitate. Now they’re building a life there together — raising sweet Ellie and preparing to welcome their baby boy into the world.
This pregnancy hasn’t been easy for her. It’s been physically and emotionally demanding in a lot of ways, but if there’s one thing I know about Megan, it’s that she takes on motherhood with so much strength, excitement, and adventure. Ellie already absolutely adores her, and I know this little boy will too.
The day of their session ended up being such a fun day! I took the Tube over to their flat that morning. We grabbed crepes together, wandered through Hampstead Heath, and let Eleanor run around.
Afterward, we went back to their flat and documented the slower moments of their family there. The little in-between moments always end up being my favorite: Ellie curled up next to her parents, tiny hands resting on Megan’s growing bump, the feeling of anticipation filling their home.
There was something especially meaningful about the contrast of this season for them. Their first baby was born in the US, surrounded by familiarity, and now their second will be born across the pond in London. Different streets, different routines, different accents filling the air — but the same love building their family.
I think that’s part of why I loved this session so much. It wasn’t just maternity photos. It was documenting a chapter. The kind of chapter that years from now will feel almost dreamlike: living abroad, growing their family, raising Eleanor in London parks, preparing to bring home a baby boy to their tiny flat in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world.
And getting to preserve that for one of my best friends is something I’ll always treasure.
