Libby + Josh | Spring Bridals at the Utah State Capitol

The Blossoms are here!

I’m so excited to be sharing Libby and Josh’s bridal session today! We shot their session at the Utah State Capitol in early April, just as the very first blossoms started to bloom. It had snowed just the night before , so we were a little worried about if the blossoms would be gone or not, but they survived and the snow had (mostly) melted by the next morning! We caught that perfect in-between moment when winter finally gives way to spring—and honestly, it was magic. There’s something about those soft pink blossoms against the crisp white stone of the Capitol building that never gets old. It’s such a timeless location, and this time of year makes it feel extra special.

We ended up having the most perfect spring morning. The trees were just starting to pop and we had the grounds COMPLETELY to ourselves. After this morning, I vowed I will never do another Capitol session in the evening and will always opt for the morning to avoid the crowds here.

I always tell my couples that the Capitol in the spring is totally worth the wait—it’s such a romantic backdrop, especially with a little movement in her dress and those blossoms fluttering around in the breeze.

So Libby found me on Instagram, but we found a fun little connection! I went home and started editing the photos and my husband glanced over at my screen and was like, "I know that guy!" I was like, "No you don't, you've never met this couple, I just met them." And then he replied, "No really, is his name Josh?" Turns out, they were both in the same internship program at Fidelity last summer and actually do know each other pretty well! It's always such a small-world moment when things like that happen.

I didn’t know either Josh or Libby before their session, but now after spending time with them both, I can say they’re such a sweet and easygoing couple. Libby was glowing in her gown, and the way Josh looked at her the whole time… ugh, it made me melt behind the camera. They have such a peaceful, joyful energy together, and that always makes photographing a session feel like hanging out with friends.

I also loved the look they chose for this session—the short and sweet dress Libby chose was a perfect complement to the soft tones of the Capitol and the early blossoms.

If you’re planning a bridal session in early spring, this is your sign to keep an eye on the blossoms and be ready to go when they show up! It can still be chilly, but it’s so worth it for those soft colors and dreamy light. And if you’re considering the Capitol, just know it truly never disappoints, no matter the season.
